Memorial website in the memory of your loved one
This memorial website was created in the memory of our loved one, Gary Bosworth who was born in United States on June 14, 1954 and passed away on July 14, 2006 at the age of 52. We will remember him forever.

Gary was born in San Francisco. He graduated from nearby Mills High School. It was during his early school years that the American work ethic was instilled in him by his father George Bosworth. At an early age he worked as a newspaper carrier and  an algebra/geometry tutor.  His job skills were such that the last two years of high school he worked for the national tax service bureau company of Computax at their massive west coast data processing center in Burlingame, California.

After high school, Gary, attended prestigious Harvey Mudd College where he majored in Engineering, with a minor in Business Administration. He earned college tuition by working summers for the international construction firm of Bechtel Power Corporation in their power plant drafting team, specializing in Piping & Instrument Diagrams.

After moving to the Coachella Valley, Gary earned degrees in both Business Administration and Computer Science from the College of the Desert. After getting married in 1981, he and his wife looked for a permanent place to live. They fell in love with Desert Hot Springs, moving here over a dozen years ago.

He quickly became active in the community, joining Desert Hot Springs Sunrise Rotary shortly after their formation. He has served on their board of directors almost every year since. Gary was named Rotarian of the year for 1990.

During this time he was also extremely active in United Cerebral Palsy of the Inland Empire serving on their board of directors from about 1986 to 1990. In addition to being active with several local organizations, he was also active on the national level advocating for the right of senior citizens to live in their own homes instead of being forced, by policy and circumstances, to live in nursing homes. This advocacy has twice earned Gary Bosworth visits to the White House -- once in 1990 with President Bush and again in 1994 with President Clinton. Since being elected to the Desert Hot Springs City Council, Gary was chosen by the late Congressmember Sonny Bono to attend the inauguration of President Clinton in January 1997. In mid 1994 Bosworth was appointed to the Coachella Valley Association of Governments (CVAG) Gaming Task Force.

Bosworth was elected to the Desert Hot Springs City Council in January 1995. He was re-elected in November 1996 in a substantial landslide. As a member of city council, Gary has fostered a new era of cooperation between city hall and the business community. He has worked hard at being the city council liaison to both the Chamber of Commerce and the Hoteliers Association.

He led the successful effort for the City of Desert Hot Springs to finally rejoin the Palm Springs Desert Resort & Convention Visitors Bureau. He also managed to get the City of Desert Hot Springs to commit to maintaining their commitment to funding the city's own visitor information center run by the Desert Hot Springs Chamber of Commerce.

Gary was the only member of the city council to go on record by a public vote in 1996 to NOT give a letter of support for the construction of a proposed prison/correctional facility. He served as a member or alternate on many CVAG committees and served as vice-chair of the CVAG Human community Resources Committee.

Gary constantly strived to keep residents in and around Desert Hot Springs informed through various methods like ; newspaper columns, newsletters, postcards/letters, town meetings, and a year end report (among others) . He also worked to get residents meaningfully involved in their local government. He has done this through such means as town meetings, surveys, Email, and his website.

In February 1998 Gary was recognized for his outreach to ALL people in the community at the Second Annual Coachella Valley Hispanic Awards.

From the beginning of his first term Gary pledged to work for increased law enforcement. The city's dream of establishing our own police department cam true on July 1, 1997. Once the decision was made in March 1997 to form our own Police Department, he has been a steadfast supporter of our own police department at every turn. It was a glorious occasion to see our own police take to the streets. We are well on the way to making the streets of Desert Hot Springs safe for everyone.

Now that we are working to make our streets safe, increased development is definitely needed for the long-term and we must find a fiscally responsible way to fund that development. The future of the whole Desert Hot Springs community rests heavily with establishing a gateway to I-10 along Palm Drive, stressed Gary.

He continued, as we work to diversifying our economy, we must remember tourism has been the lifeblood of our community. Tourism can give us the needed funds to help us jump-start our economy. As such, we must do everything reasonably possible to protect out crystal clear cold & hot mineral waters..

This is just a small example of the vision for the future Gary has seen for Desert Hot Springs as it develops into a true jewel of the Coachella Valley. He will be truly missed.
